our beginning

These issues matter to us....

In the Beginning...

The vision for God’s House began with a prayer. God answered with a church made for and shaped by new generations. One that isn’t afraid to try new things. A church that rocks, that uses art, creative experiences, video, music and truth laid out in ways that people can understand. A place to find family, one that experiences God. Not with just the head, but with the heart, too. God's House opened on January 14, 2001. God still shows up in His House every week (during the week, too).

Truth

We seek truth. We especially value ancient truth and wisdom because it has stood the test of time over centuries. It’s what the Bible is talking about when it says “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." (John 8:32). We see that our freedom to live life and to live with people must be based on honesty and truth.

People

You can't do God on your own. Jesus didn't set it up that way. With all the problems that churches have (after all, they are made up of flawed humans,) the church--and the flawed humans that make up the church--are still the hope of the world. Break some walls down. Try and love again.

Worship There is a difference between knowing about God, and knowing God. You are invited to experience it for yourself. For real.

For real. There is a difference between knowing about God, and knowing God. You are invited to experience it for yourself. For real. There is a difference between knowing about God, and knowing God. Following Jesus is not only something we need to understand. Following God is something we need to experience. It’s real. It’s alive. Following God engages the body, the spirit, the mind and the soul. It’s what Jesus was talking about when He said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." (John 10:10). Ernest Hemingway wrote, “I did not care what it was all about all I know was how to live in it. Maybe if you found out how to live in it you learned from that what it was all about.” (From The Sun Also Rises). So try living in it. You'll end up understanding it better. And knowing God better.

Authenticity

Real. It means showing up when life stinks. And not hiding it when God's doing great things, either. It’s about being genuine. Somewhere in the efforts to appear perfect, the real person can become lost. It’s not about having the right hair color or the right tat, or the right clothes. It's about being the real you. Real. (There's that word, again.)

Structure

Love God, Love People - Matt 22:34-40

Like any structure, a house is only as strong as its foundation and at God's House, Jesus Christ is our foundation. The six pillars that make the House are Truth, Prayer and Worship, Community, Serve and Outreach.

We “Love God” through:

  • Truth – Learn the Truth, Live the Truth and Teach the Truth. By Truth we mean the Word of God and letting it work in our lives, our community and our world.
  • Prayer – Relationship with God – 2 way and in community.
  • Worship – Praise, Glory and Surrender to God.

We “Love People” through:

  • Community – In the Church, Fellowship, Accountability, Seeing the Truth in one another.
  • Serve – Spiritual Gifts, Service to others
  • Outreach – Outside community, Horizon Pregnancy Center, Visitors to the House, Widows and Orphans, the mission field: Mexico, Indonesia, Hollywood, Africa.
